With how dense the very world of doom metal is, it is sadly understandable how easily many bands can fall through the cracks into dark obscurity even if they are laden with immense talent and power the likes of which many of us are constantly searching for. That’s the very nature of the underground as well as part of the thrill of the hunt throughout its depths, and that will never change which makes bands like Arche damn near the perfect example of such magnificence that has gone unheralded for all that it is for far too long. Despite only having one other piece of material to their name, however, it’s only natural that a few would know this name, but their new creation should absolutely change that.
Invoking cues from some of the best funeral doom bands that we have throughout the underground with it being very tempting to make comparisons to the likes of Mournful Congregation or Doom:VS, Arche’s sound is something that stands firm on its own as this duo not only knows precisely what they’re going for at every step of the way, they know exactly how to execute it for maximum effect. Everything great about the style is at play here as it’s but three tracks that adorn “Transitions” but with a runtime that finds itself stretching over 36 minutes overall, it’s every factor of the album that lends itself even more to the very spirit of this particular corner of doom metal before you even hear so much as a single note. But it’s then that the ensuing intensity that it brought forth in each and every given moment of this creation lends itself to the absolute power of Arche and the grand capacity that they have to not just deliver one of the more compelling creations that the style has thrown our way in far too long, but it gives us more than a peek at what this name is able to bring to the table. Overflowing with gut-wrenching emotions and dreariness that is nigh on intoxicating for all of its weight and significance, the very whole of “Transitions” is not something to pass up should you even be a fleeting fan of doom in this vein for this isn’t just another solid creation in a style that could always use more love, but it’s the beginning of a rise for a name that we’re sure to be seeing much more of in the future.
This is but the second creation from Arche, and already it’s clear that they’ve started down a path of true excellence the likes of which we’re lucky to see in any capacity. What’s been brought forth here in “Transitions” is the sort of solemn, massive doom that leaves nothing to chance nor a sliver of light to find freedom in the unforgiving world with the future surely looking just as bleak and unforgiving with more than a few of us basking in its glory as it exudes such a mesmerizing presence and power.
