Liquid Earth – Teufelskreis

The expanding yet limitless expanse of space is something that has and will continue to inspire hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of musicians for years to come so long as there is a sky to marvel at and the human desire to make music. It’s the sort of thing that keeps giving time after time with it inspiring everybody differently, but there isn’t any better realm for it to flourish than that of psychedelic rock. Many who have taken inspiration have delivered all sorts of creations with space never once lacking in terms of always offering us new territories to explore. Some, however, like to deviate from the “typical” paths even if it’s just a little bit. For Liquid Earth, it’s led them down the instrumental path that has absolutely been carved out by many that have come before them, but it’s with all they bring forward on their latest effort that one simply cannot deny the grandeur at work here.

When dealing with a sound like this that has been so well fleshed out and excavated in virtually every given way over the years with there always been numerous active bands out there that deliver glory time after time, it can be tempting to say that there isn’t much more than can be done with the sound, but the simple act of keeping the excellence going is a feat in of itself, in my opinion. The vast realms of space have more than enough room for everybody, and it’s in their own personal supernova that Liquid Earth crafted “Teufelskreis”, one of the more impressive creations from a newer name since I discovered Black Sky Giant. A special blend of psychedelia that pulls from both the worlds of mind-bending rock and riff-fueled doom metal with a real fire in its core, the five tracks and 44-minute runtime of this album is absolutely something that needs to be heard by the modern lover of all things heavy and trippy for not only does “Teufelskreis” check off all the right boxes in every category, Liquid Earth ensures that it smashes any and all expectations! Nothing is left to chance in this effort with every minute filled with visions of raw color and untold beauty the likes of which keep you absolutely glued to your seat with only the transition from one song to the next the only lamentation there may be had with the album for it’s only in those fleeting moments that we’re left without its wonder.

This is one of those records that demands to be heard for all that it manages to accomplish with Liquid Earth only furthering the very glory of this breed of music with all that they brought to life here. Whether it’s the epic almost 15-minute piece that is “Brettwoman” or some passage of tripped-out riffage that holds nothing back, “Teufelskreis” is a journey that simply cannot be passed up on.
