Morbid Stench – The Rotting Ways of Doom

The festering madness of the very floor of the underground of the metal world is something that will never cease to amaze me. We could visit it time after time, day after day, and still always find something new to lose ourselves in whether it’s something that falls firmly back into the trends that have been made beforehand or an approach that dares to try something bold or, at the very least, different. Even as some rise above that floor, they will never truly be able to rid themselves of that filth even if they wanted to. For some, they thrive in it. It’s madness the likes of which can become supremely compelling in the right hands with there always being something to be said about works that manage to continuously push further into blasphemy. Within that muck and darkness, Morbid Stench has been stirring with their brand of death-doom viciously compelling, and yet it’s with their latest creation that the name is arguably at its peak.

The many faces of the realm of death-doom are a phenomenon that will always keep us coming back for more given how easily you can come across different forms of it simply from shifting from one band to another. There’s a level of eloquence, despair, nastiness, and engrossing madness that can be found in any given portion of any work of this kind with few taking the boring option of copying their sound from another band to really make the style dynamic in more than one way such that it becomes intoxicating upon revisitation no matter how many times you’ve already done so. When it comes to Morbid Stench, I think their name says more than enough with the cover art of an album like “The Rotting Ways of Doom” more than solidifying anybody’s expectations of what’s to be found within these six slabs of undeniable heaviness. A voracious assault right from the very beginning, Morbid Stench’s power is not something to be underestimated in any capacity. The very foundations of the earth and the tombs held within sway to the very command of the power at play here with “The Rotting Ways of Doom” all but the perfect vessel for writing, seething, bubbling undeath the likes of which can only be likened to a vision straight from the demented mind of David Cronenburg with the musical prowess to back it all up. Nary a weak moment for the whole of the record and murderous intent that wouldn’t be sated until the covering of the earth in boiling blood, Morbid Stench is an entity all but perfect for the nastiest reaches of the underground! And while you’re left awestruck by the riffs, the tyranny, and the decay brought on by the sheer domination of “The Rotting Ways of Doom”, there will be nothing left of you at the end but a pathetic heap for Morbid Stench to stomp back into the earth while its next victims simply line up for further decimation.

Few death-doom creations can compare to a proper effort of darkness, death, and heaviness the likes of which no one can deny. In every possible form, Morbid Stench has achieved that to the very fullest with this newest creation. To lose yourself in the depths of “The Rotting Ways of Doom” is to find yourself amidst some of the best that the underground has to offer with this performance, in particular, being worthy of being called a schematic for many future pieces of death-doom to model themselves after as the days continue their toll.
