True talent never seems to sleep. As time has gone on and the world of the metal underground has become ever more diverse and wondrous, there has always been a select list of musicians that manage to not just impress on a consistent basis but constantly release material that is always put jaws on the floor. From Markov Soroka to Rogga Johansson to Taylor Nordberg to Gabriele Gramalgia, that list has only become more prolific in recent times. However, under multiple names as well as an alias, the entity known only as Noise is poised to absolutely dominate vast swathes of the underground with his work already more than well-known, and he’s poised to take his offensive even further.
Having already made waves with his two wave-making acts of Non Est Deus and Kanonenfieber, to witness even more excellence from yet another name come from Noise is to find oneself truly bewildered for all that has been accomplished already in just the last few years. Now, even as Kanonenfieber finds itself on the precipice of releasing a fresh EP, the third act of Noise, Leip, prepares to release its second opus with it more than worthy of being held side-by-side with the releases from the other projects. A much more somber yet still another undeniably passionate approach to black metal, the seven tracks of “Reue” are naught but precisely what we should come to expect from all that Noise has conjured up to this point. Even given the fact that Leipa only came into existence two years ago with this but the act’s second creation to date, the very fabric of “Reue” is such that it exudes power and competency that simply draws people towards it for all that it manages to accomplish. It viciously tempting to hold this next to Noise’s other accomplishments and try to compare it on such a grand scale, but that would be to almost minimize what’s been achieved here with the very essence of “Reue” more than enough for the album to stand proudly on its own merits as a powerful creature with a heart-wrenching passion that’s felt right from the beginning as the mastery over black metal carries every other aspect even well after the record has come to an end.
Another victory for a musician that seems to do nothing but greatness lately, I didn’t think it would be so soon before we heard from Noise again, but it’s clearer now more than ever that this man is never once to be underestimated. The progress of time is nothing compared to the determination of the man behind these many names with Leipa simply being the latest to have its time in the spotlight with the potency of “Reue” naught but fitting when given the power and talent that we’ve been familiar with after what feels like no time at all.
“Reue” releases on January 13th via Avantgarde Music and Noisebringer Records!
