As you lie on the bubbling floor of the underground in the world of death metal, it can really be anyone’s guess as to which of those writhing masses would rise up to become beasts that demand to be reckoned with for what they bring to the table to climb the ladder into greater heights. When I first came upon Conjureth last year with their first full-length album, “Majestic Dissolve”, it was evident damn near immediately that this name was not going to be one that could easily be swiped to the side to fall back onto the floor into obscurity. Rather, Conjureth seized the moment in every way as the band’s past experience enabled the album to become an absolute beast of death metal that never once pulled a single punch. Upon their return, that glory has only been furthered.
The old school of death metal is a class that is never-ending with there being more students every year as the teachers become evermore revered in their respective scenes as time goes on, but it still proves to be the case that few ever properly graduated to become beasts all their own that are not only able to carry forth the torch for the style but show us what there is still to accomplish. Without question, Conjureth is the epitome of such an ideal. Whereas it was with their previous record that Conjureth properly laid down the foundation for their sound after two beastly demos, it is all that they bring to the table with “The Parasitic Chambers” that we see Conjureth begin to evolve into something exceptional in every right. Riffs abound and absolutely coated in the most magnificent kind of filth that much of the death metal undergrowth tries to emulate, this new offering really shows Conjureth molting into a magnificent presence that’s as eviscerating as it is intoxicating in equal parts. This is the breed of death metal that catches the attention instantly with fans of the old school easily able to find traces to latch onto while Conjureth is able to simultaneously put their own touch and flair into every fiber of “The Parasitic Chambers” so that it quickly declares itself as much more than a mere copy of its influences.
It comes out of the darkness with true power and undeniability the likes of which only the best of modern death metal is able to really tap into, and if it wasn’t clear last year that this band was not to be trifled with nor underestimated, it is all that went into “The Parasitic Chambers” that solidifies such a truth. Venomous to the very core and undeniable in even its smallest moments, Conjureth is the new force that must be heralded for all that it is with this, hopefully, but the beginnings of many offensives to come from the clearly talented act.
