For all that the vast world of psychedelia has been able to bring forth over the decades, I still find myself very comfortable in making the claim that we are in a true golden age for anything that dares to dabble in the realms of psychedelics. With all the immense talent that we have at our disposal and all the new dimensions that are constantly being opened before us as we simply go from one band to the next, anyone who has found themselves in the midst of psychedelic music in the last ten, fifteen years should be inundated by what’s been thrown our way in that time. Hands down, Acid King is of the far more notable acts in the world of psychedelia even if their appearances are quite spread out. Eight years since their last full-length album, Acid King’s return is the very definition of welcome and long overdue.

While we’re barraged by names like Elder, King Buffalo, and Naxatras that have been at the forefront of the newer offensives in the world of psychedelics blending with heaviness, Acid King has been a force to know and respect since their eponymous EP twenty-nine years ago with the band’s power and trippiness only becoming more flavorful as time has gone on. It can be hard for a band as celebrated as this to find a new year to top themselves whenever they do come around with a new full-length, but patience is a true virtue in the village of the Acid King with “Beyond Vision” but the latest boon that their loyal acolytes can now boast of. Seven tracks that truly take the listener on a journey of magnificent, spell-binding color and realities folding back into one another that all come together in a spectacular visage that’s on a level only a band as exalted and experienced as Acid King could ever hope to bring to life in such undeniable fashion where not only are all the hallmarks of a fascinating world of psychedelic stoner material here in heaping detail, but it is nigh on the definition of captivating! I’ve long described many albums as an experience that needs to be fallen into in order to really get a true understanding of what has been brought forth by the band, and never has that been any more prevalent than with all that is “Beyond Vision”. The exact breed of album that demands full commitment in order to uncover the deepest secrets that Acid King has to offer, these seven tracks are made exclusively for those willing to uncover the most closely guarded secrets of the dimensions with the path forward one that bends time, space, and soul.

They say the sky is the limit. That may be the case for many, but when it comes to living legends like Acid King, it can often feel as though “limit” isn’t even in the band’s vocabulary. They have been constantly impressing us and blowing open entirely new dimensions to our senses for decades now with “Beyond Vision” doing naught but cementing the near-mythical status that Acid King has attained for itself. A real journey the likes of which music of this vein was all but crafted for, Acid King’s return is, again, something to behold with all that the mind and body can absorb.
