The World is Quiet Here – Zon

When we’re dealing with music that deems itself as “progressive”, it’s not terribly often that we’re given an experience that actually manages to deliver any promise of that to the maximum. Apart from the latest performance from the likes of Parius last year, the world of progressive rock and metal both haven’t brought anything before me in well over a year that has caught my eye or ear in any meaningful way despite how the wild reaches the genre can be taken. There have surely been acts that I’ve missed, but it’s only because of my discovery of The World is Quiet Here tonight that I’ve found myself with my jaw properly on the floor and my drought with the progressive genre ended after what has felt like an agonizing eternity.

There’s always the potentiality for undeniable grandeur in any work that dubs itself as progressive in any form, but it has been my experience that death metal has been the only platform where such a concept is taken to any sort of significant extent with even the very world of metal that is “strictly” progressive eluding my attention despite my efforts to find something to lose myself in. Such a drought can be viciously disappointing given what’s possible, and it’s only when you come across a band like The World is Quiet Here that you’re reminded both why progressive metal has been as fascinating as it has been since day one and why it will continue to be the most unpredictable of genres. Pick any track from “Zon” and I can damn near guarantee that you will be thrown into a whirlwind of a musical experience that can be likened to extremely few other acts out there. Constantly changing its tune and magnificently frenetic even in its subtler moments, The World is Quiet Here puts forth a performance that is anything but quiet nor anything that should warrant a pass by even the most astute of snobs. Few words can contribute any real justice to the unique direction that “Zon” is constantly and consistently taking the listener with the raw talent on display here of the sort that astounds, bewilders, and stuns those who find themselves before such material as it is at every turn The World is Quiet Here finds a new way to bring the jaw even closer to the floor. I find it difficult to do any sort of justice to “Zon” with my own words even as I creep closer to having done these reviews for almost ten years now, yet I just can’t help but be damn near dumbfounded by what

This is what it means to take progressive metal to its craziest territories with nothing able to stand in the way of the range, scope, and ambition that is to be had here as The World is Quiet here proves that they don’t just have the appetite for such glory, they have the tools and the drive to bring in to life in exuberant fashion. “Zon” is a deep, dense, and mysterious creation that demands you to become lost within its halls many times over as it’s every fresh listen that offers a new, heretofore unknown sight that feels more glorious that came before it as The World is Quiet Here takes you down a path that’s as enchanting to the senses as it is demanding for the listener to wholly and truly surrender themselves to.
