Have you ever heard of a band that, by all accounts, you know you would enjoy, but you never investigate for no particular reason? The list of bands that fit such a description for me is far too long with an array of names new and old that I have long been meaning to investigate but never sit down to actually follow through with some entries quite baffling. Of the new names in my case, Megaton Sword is one that has been on my radar since their very first EP, “Niralet”, with their follow-up the next year another one that I still have yet to somehow experience despite the fact that I’ve never heard so much as a bad word about the band or their music. With the recent release of their second full-length, I was determined not to let that mistake continue any longer with my foolishness now more obvious to me than ever before.

Immediately, this is the kind of record that can only be made by a band with an extreme passion for their sound with there being very few out of the current that can match what’s been done here to the point that I’m more than confident in making the claim that Megaton Sword has made the most invigorating slab of heavy metal that I’ve had the immense pleasure and honor of experiencing since Cirith Ungol’s “Forever Black”. A magnificent display of what it means to keep the very flame of classic greatness alive in a modern form that is nigh on compelling with every track having something intoxicating and undeniable to offer, “Might & Power” is viciously addicting! There isn’t so much as a single throwaway song or dull moment to be had in the entirety of the 39-minute runtime that is on full display in all of its glory for us to bow before with the very name of Megaton Sword guaranteed to be burnt into the minds of any and all who are fortunate enough to come before the absolute beast this band is. Without a doubt in my mind, “Might & Power” is going to be hailed as not just one of the best accomplishments for heavy metal in 2023 but metal as a whole. Far more than just a collection of riffs or flavors that try to loosely tie back to the classic days of the genre, Megaton Sword is the band that many of us have been needing more of in our lives with the very whole of this performance feeling like a gift from on high.

I would be genuinely surprised if I were to come across another new name that comes even close to the magnitude that Megaton Sword has brought forth here with every possible iota of this performance is what mastery and true landmark creations are made out of. The very existence of “Might & Power” is on such a high level that it should reinvigorate the souls of those who fear that the classic realm of heavy metal is doomed to fading away sooner rather than later with Megaton Sword putting on a gorgeous performance at every turn that delivers on every possible standard. Full stop – this is a true complete victory for Megaton Sword and all who experience “Might & Power”. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some catching up to with this these fine gentlemen.
