Demon King – Vesania

To speak of technical death metal is to, in my opinion, is to speak of some of the best and most talented musicians that the world of metal has to offer us nowadays. Over the years, up-and-coming names have been nothing short of enchanting with their particular brands of technical death metal astounding in more than a few ways with the level of craftsmanship and bombastic nature that’s always on display a true sight to behold. Demon King more than fit that description with their 2021 debut EP, and it’s felt like two years since then but it is now that we herald in their return with a fresh EP that really sees Demon King come into its own.

There only but one lamentation that I have for a creation such as this: there is simply not enough for me to ooze over. In a five-track EP that barely manages to clock in a runtime over 27 minutes, I was really hoping to have much more from the likes of Demon King when they finally returned but that does not mean in any form that what’s been brought forth for “Vesania” is anything less than an immense treat from beginning to end. A continuation of what they threw down in that initial EP where nobody knew what to expect, this is what it means to witness a band further hone their craft to an extent that seems almost unbelievable given how early on we still are in the process of Demon King’s rise through the underground. Whereas the foundation was laid forth before, nothing stands before the viciously focused power of “Vesania” in all that it is from its twisting, complex rhythms that are downright dazzling, captivating melodies that go almost too well with the brutality at play in every moment, and the monstrous energies that make the performance nothing that can be denied in any form. A ferocious work that Demon King should be immensely proud of, the future is amazingly bright for this band and all that it is.

An exemplary creation of what modern technical death metal is able to deliver, Demon King’s rise is not to be underestimated. “Vesania” has it all from its essence to its raw talent that is not to be denied in any form whatsoever, and I can only hope it won’t be long before Demon King returns to us.
