There are plenty of moments throughout the history of metal where we’ve been utterly spoiled with loads of quality choices that always keep us guessing as to precisely what’s coming next, but it has got to be in this modern era that we’re in a true golden age for such wonders. More so than ever before, we’re able to witness the rise of the bands throughout the underground to become real names to know in just a matter of years as the work ethic of many of these acts are undeniable with the quality of their efforts just as impressive. Among a litany of other names, Profeci has quickly become a real treat to those of us who have come upon them in the underground since their debut creation just three years ago and witnessed its follow-up just the following year. Now, however, it’s with their third record that Profeci has turned a corner the likes of which cannot easily be ignored nor whose power can be denied.

Right from the beginning, Profeci was not a name that was to be ignored. A vicious torrent of power that was not afraid to peel back the very layers of the human condition and uncover it before all sorts of terrors and plagues, their sophomore creation from 2021, “Aporia”, still stands as a clear beacon of what the underground is able to bring to the table in more ways than one. As such, any new material from the name is sure to cause some waves throughout the different circles of the underground as Profeci’s name only grows with their third full-length offering proving to be yet another magnificent assault whose dynamic nature and unyielding presence is not the be underestimated in the slightest. Six tracks that offer no reprieve of any sort, “Ubóstwo” is an offering that always keeps you on your toes without anything able to be truly anticipated for what comes next while the particular blend that Profeci has all but perfected upon this creation that driving force of evisceration that constantly keeps you locked in place. Never once traveling quite the same path twice to make “Ubóstwo” a fantastically dynamic experience that never once relents in any form, this is a creation that underground purveyors should find immense wonders all throughout.

There are plenty of bands out there throughout the crossover realm of black and death metal, but few are able to come up with anything quite like what Profeci has managed to put up thus far. Their first two albums were nothing to scoff at, but it is all that has been summoned forth to bring “Ubóstwo” into the light with all of its glorious detail Profeci arguably at their highest point yet. The twisting paths and halls of “Ubóstwo” are not to be treaded lightly, yet those bold enough to do so will find themselves before another victory for the underground as 2023 continues onward.
