Red Mountain – Earthbound

Much like all across the underground scenes of any given style, the burgeoning names coming out of the woodwork always have more than enough to offer for those of us are who not afraid in the slightest to uncover what’s out there. Sometimes, we’re met with grand acts that are ready to take the entire sound head-on. Other times, it’s another band that fits well within the boundaries that are not designed to rock the boat. We’re always looking for the former, but just because something doesn’t blow your mind doesn’t mean it isn’t quality as there has always been a passion to discern if you’re looking in the right place. In the case of Red Mountain with its debut EP, it’s a no-brainer to say that this is not an EP that will blow anybody’s mind, but in no way does that mean it’s not worthy of a solid listen.

There is always some sort of charm to creation that seem content to be nothing more than a good time between friends. It’s a simple approach that we’ve all heard thousands of times before, but it’s the sort of excellence that will likely never get old so long as we get bands that manage to come around and continuously prove its worth. Without question, Red Mountain effortlessly proves such with the three tracks of “Earthbound” a prime example of that. A straightforward creation that is just as simplistic as it is effective as its presentation, this is a humble little piece that does more than enough to keep the listener committed, put forth some catchy rhythms, and make it known to all in the experience that Red Mountain is having a damn good time bringing it all forward. Such an experience can often be considered a dime a dozen as the world of rock continues to expand and perpetuate itself, but I never once think it will ever lose its luster. While there is a bit more repetition in each track than what I would prefer, there’s no way for me to deny the flavors and passion that have gone into “Earthbound”. It’s a solid foundation for Red Mountain to build itself from as we move forward as the band continues to hone their craft to really show us what they’re made of, and there’s no way I can sit here and not be confident in saying that this is a damn good starting point for Red Mountain to launch themselves from.

It’s far from anything that is to blast open the possibilities of all that rock has to offer, but this is what excellent rock is always made out of. Friends jamming together and putting forth music to bring more people into their party for naught but a damn good time, Red Mountain promises great things in the future should they pursue what “Earthbound” has laid forth.
