Once in a blue moon, you’re met with a band that you just can’t simply anticipate. It could be from any style, from any corner of the globe, and defy any possible expectation that you may have before entering the work in question. It has been a hot minute since I came across an album from any band that I didn’t know what to expect before going in and then proceeding to have my mind blown, but it is always a matter of time before such a thing occurs yet again. When I first sat down to listen to whatever Nebulae Come Sweet put together for its newest creation, I had no idea what to expect. Even if I knew but an inkling of what was in store for me in these seven tracks, very little could’ve still then prepared me for the album in its entirety.

There’s always some sort of progressive band out there that dares to take whatever style of their choosing and shake it up in whatever way that they see fit with there not being much that we can do to fully envision what’s to come before we lose ourselves in whatever material is dished out. Some, though, just seem to do their own thing regardless of whatever has come before, with no desire to adhere to genre boundaries and naught but their imagination to guide their path. While unique is still a word that I refrain from using even in a scenario like what we have here with Nebulae Come Sweet, I find myself at a loss to truly find another band to compare it to after hearing “De Lumière”.

A grand creation that pulls from classic literature and old philosophy, this is an effort that defies your expectations and constantly keeps you guessing as to what is to come next. Just as capable of heavy dirges as much as it is competent at pulling off magnificent feats of light and wonder that can be driven by acoustic guitars or any number of unorthodox instruments for metal, “De Lumière” demands to be an album that you take your best to absorb for all that it dares to be. No stone is left unturned nor is any challenge left untaken as Nebulae Come Sweet seems to revel in the very opportunity at challenging itself to craft a body of work that wholly immerses the listener in a dynamic experience that is always shifting in form with nothing to stand in its way as the very passages of the record seem to speak to the very soul, tickle the subconscious desire to wander, and show us just what it means to be punishing and loving at the same exact time.

I cannot help but implore the curious and adventurous to fall into the hands of “De Lumière” for if you want something that always seems to reach for something ever more grandiose with a flair and performance to match then this is the record that you will be addicted to, looking to get on your hands and knees in order to make sure that you’ve understood and took in every aspect of this bold creation. Nebulae Come Sweet has truly made something of supreme intrigue and wonder within the seven tracks to the point that everyone involved should be extremely proud of what they’ve become a part of even unto their final breaths for this is a record of passion that you only get to make maybe a handful of times in your life, and it was done to titanic effect to really make “De Lumière” shine like few others.
