Persekutor – Snow Business

There are just some albums out there that you simply cannot anticipate. No matter how long you’ve been around in the scene, what all you think you’ve seen, and all that you’ve heard, there will always be something that comes out of the absolute blue that makes you wonder just where this possibly could have come from. Much like how the world of psychedelic rock has fresh acts like Psychlona that it could not have predicted despite all the odds, it was only a matter of time before something really exceptional comes from a sound that’s particularly niche. Black’n’roll is far from something that we’re constantly listening to, but there’s always at least one name that manages to make the rounds. For the life of me, there is nothing is the world that could have prepared me for Persekutor, and I doubt there’s anything you could do about their massive presence either.

It has been some years since I’ve come across a work of black’n’roll and even longer since I’ve come upon a work of the sound that actually left me properly engaging, entertained, and outright floored by the end of the creation. I was not expecting such a thing to happen when I sat down to listen to the forthcoming work from the rising menace that is Persekutor, but, clearly, surprises come from all angles with “Snow Business” being one from the frost that well and truly caught me off-guard in every possible way. Right from the start, Persekutor leans more towards the ends of heavy metal that begs comparison to the likes of AC/DC which is a viciously bold comparison, but Persekutor more than earns it! Add into that just enough of a black metal edge to add a real sense of ferocity and cutthroat attitude, and “Snow Business” quickly becomes quite the spectacle that can seem ridiculous to an outsider for all the right reasons but to take in “Snow Business” as to whole is to take in a massive effort that is undeniably intoxicating, offbeat in all that right parts, and a damn good time that becomes much more than a possible guilty pleasure. This is music for the snow-covered streets bathed in the neon light of the city night life where the rats scurry and foul deeds occur in the alley where the very energies of Persekutor come to life. Immensely dirty to the core and undeniable in its purest form, “Snow Business” is an unmistakable ripper that comes at you from nowhere and never once lets you go before its magnitude is felt and you’re consumed by its swelling power!

Far more than mere riffs and the desire to be some false copy of AC/DC with a poor metal twist, Persekutor has wildly succeeded where many others have made grave mistakes. The soul of “Snow Business” is not to be denied for how much it dares to execute in supreme fashion with the balls to actually go for it with its entirety and nothing less. As ferocious as it is confusing to look upon at first, Persekutor is a name that is going to be on the tongues of many in the coming months and years.

“Snow Business” releases on June 23rd via Blues Funeral Recordings!
