It has been far, far too long since I’ve found myself before any body of work from the pulsing realm of brutal death metal and feel as though I walked out from a work that actually did the style justice without falling apart in other categories. Sure, last year saw the arrival of a few names that were interesting, but I simply could not remember the last time I came across something from the sound that actually caught my attention, kept it, and caused me to return time after time. By all accounts, I should find myself transfixed with the sound given much of what I listen to on a constant basis, but many attempts have left me empty-handed. Stumbling upon the newest creation from Dead and Dripping, I knew not what to expect or what I was going to find, and I find myself fortunate to have been presented with this ferocious creation.

Given the very nature of the sound itself, any work of brutal death metal already has a lot going on within even just one song, but to combine all of that with a technical approach to make the performance even more of a mind-bending experience that holds nothing back is to find yourself before a truly massive beast bent on consuming all of creation. In lesser hands, such a task couldn’t be done successfully, but it’s clear from any of the nine tracks that make up “Blackened Cerebral Rifts” that Dead and Dripping is anything but incapable. Abundantly voracious in all the right places and the very definition of relentless right from the beginning, Dead and Dripping makes it known clear as day that the arrival of their third record is nothing something that the global world of brutal death metal is not going to be able to lightly dismiss. This record tackles the very concepts of the style head-on with not so much as a moment of “Blackened Cerebral Rifts” offering true escape from the murderous iron grip of Dead and Dripping as every given aspect of the album from its approach to its execution exude an undeniable understanding of the style that is being played here with every minute proving even more than this is an act that demands to be known and feared throughout the realm of brutal death metal and all of its long-formidable ranks.

It has been a long time since I’ve come across something in this sound that has captured my attention like what Dead and Dripping has here, but I can’t help but get the gut feeling that this is an act that will not stop until everyone and everything cowers at the very mentioning of their name. There is much to fear within the confines of “Blackened Cerebral Rifts” with Dead and Dripping making it clear that they’re going for naught but blood with the very mind-bending properties of these nine tracks only serving to further confuse and obliterate the listener without so much as a shred of mercy in sight.
