Xagonia – Undead Hunter

One way or another, we are all familiar with many of the stereotypes that have come along and about throughout the vast realms of doom metal whether we have done our best to embrace or reject them. Plenty of bands have foudn ways to embrace those ideals in such ways that their creations come out for the best with some not managing to keep a solid grip on them to only end up falling into a pit they cannot wretch themselves out of. Having been very active over the past three years, Xagonia has shown itself to be a name that is not afraid to adhere to those stereotypes without once letting it all bog the name down.

Just looking ath track record of what Xagonia has brought to the table over the last few years, it’s a wonder to see quality constantly coming about. Even the most accomplished of musicians are able to succumb to the worst kinds of trends if the wrong turns are made and the proper measures aren’t taken to account for such, but that doesn’t seem to be the problem in the slightest for an act like Xagonia as we see it on full display throughout “Undead Hunter”. For the whole of these eight tracks, any one of us would be remiss to even dare claim that Xagonia missed its mark at any point throughout the performance at large here. Absolutely overflowing with riffage, fuzziness, and the gusto to keep us enthralled even as the tracks reach over seven minutes more often than not with all of them playing into their well-established trends without so much as a moment’s hesitation with Xagonia more than capable of bringing it all to life. The sort of creation that is truly made for meditation the likes of which only this corner of doom is able to bring to the table, this is just a glimpse of what Xagonia has been building up to over the years with the results certainly speaking for themselves.

Instrumental works in the land of doom can be hard to find quality of if the universe doesn’t dish out the right cards to the right hands, and there’s no way for me to question if Xagonia’s hands are the right ones. Everything brought to the table with “Undead Hunter” is not something that should be taken lightly for all that it dares to accomplish, and I can rest easy that, given the productive past of Xagonia, it won’t be long before “Undead Hunter” has a successor that is sure to up the ante even more.
