Of all the different regions of doom that there are to explore, the instrumental reaches are easily some of the most interesting in my book. There is nothing that can compare to a band that can keep your attention with naught but raw musical prowess with the universe truly their’s to explore should they simply sieze the moment. More than a few bands out there already show us how it’s done at every possible turn, but there’s always room for more should the talent rise to the occasion. With its debut, Kosmik Sun rose with an undeniable purpose.

It’s already hard enough to find yourself in a sound that isn’t wondrously overcrowded at times without going into the immense niche levels of the underground, but that has long played a big part in setting aside the common rabble from bands that well and truly stand out. For all intents and purposes, Kosmik Sun stands out from its line-up alone. Composed of well-accomplished veterans of the underground with rich backgrounds all, “Medium Intersellar” could not have had a better foot forward before the project was even off the ground which makes the final reality of the record even more fascinating to behold. Just three tracks are what this album have to call its own, but it is throughout the 36-minute runtime of the record that Kosmik Sun impresses at damn near every turn. Completely instrumental without so much as a shred of cowardice in the face of such a challenge, the very whole of “Medium Insterstellar” shows tenacity and complete understanding of the style at play here such that it immediately pulls the listener in before throwing them back out into the realm of space dust and unimaginable colors that bend to the very will of Kosmik Sun. It makes for a formidable blend of heaviness with a surprising level of psychedelics that are effortlessly combined to create a compelling experience that is just as long-winded as it is hypnotic. Made for those who are patient but more than willing to stick it out for the reward of the experience, “Medium Interstellar” has immediately made Kosmik Sun a name that is to be respected without question in any form.

A work like this is what we’re constantly looking for through the underground even as the realm of doom diversifies as much as it doubles down in certain areas, and it’s for every reason that Kosmik Sun instantly excels and makes itself known as something that can’t be taken lightly. The future is as bright as the stars should the foundation laid down within “Medium Interstellar” be followed, yet I’ve no doubt that Kosmik Sun will do just that and so much more as the stars take us well beyond our normal realms of thinking.
