Hell’s Coronation – Transgression of a Necromantical Darkness

Over the years, it goes without saying that we’ve all seen varying forms of darkness from styles that claim to do great things for everything related to it and the realms beyond death. Black metal tends to be the style above the rest that still proclaims dominance over such madness with the more classic-sounding veins of the sound adhering to those ideals particularly well even if many out there simply aren’t able to rise to the challenge and deliver the goods. For those who do, however, listeners are more than capable of holding them close to the chest so that they aren’t lost to the depths. For some time now, Hell’s Coronation has been one such name for me with their particular brand of darkly lit black metal the sort of excellence I can never resist the temptation of with their forthcoming testament one for the ages.

I would never dare to compare a modern act like Hell’s Coronation to the great of black metal past and present, but I certainly hold this band in high regard. Even since before I came upon them, this has been an act to know and respect for their respect and devotion to black metal extends further and deeper than putting forth some riffs and slapping some paint on the faces. Should you need proof, any of their works would prove more than that, but it is with “Transgression of a Necromantical Darkness” that we see it come to a head the likes of which we should have seen coming for some time. This is but the natural progression of a band like Hell’s Coronation honing their craft to a deadly edge whose power and potential cannot be denied when wielded properly which we’re lucky enough to see at every possible turn throughout these six dark tracks. Nothing overly fancy or revolutionary is pulled off here as Hell’s Coronation knows precisely what their mission is here and they do it to terrific effect: put the realm to the torch and worship in the ashes and bone dust left behind. “Transgression of a Necromantical Darkness” holds nothing back in any of its departments whether it be its unnerving atmospheres, impeccable mid-paced riffs, tremendous understanding of what it means to make top-tier black metal, or simply having an energy that knows precisely how to pull you in, keep your attention regardless of where you’re at in the album, and keep your eyes open to the abominations of life that will soon stumble to the ground.

There is true unyielding darkness to be found within its record, and it’s every turn Hell’s Coronation directs and unleashes it all with stunning capability the likes of which we saw plenty of times in their previous record yet this is undoubtedly their most potent assault of their unholy war to date. I have no doubt that there are plenty of scathing works of black metal throughout the underground in any given year for us to lose ourselves in, but if there is to be any that I lose myself in then I am more than happy to make it “Transgression of a Necromantical Darkness”. Hell’s Coronation has it all within this massive effort with their talent surely only to become even deadlier from here on out.
