Always, there are plenty of bands out there that try to carve their own path through the underground. Oftentimes, admirable attempts are made but not much ever comes of such efforts be it due to the band petering out for one reason or another, or they were simply never on the right track to begin with. When we’re given a band of the latter, one can only wonder where the future would take them should the trajectory stay the same and all the right cues are built upon to really make for something that demands to be heard. With their debut album, Terra Builder dares to do just that with the results of “Solar Temple” definitely of the sort that has me cocking an eyebrow in undeniable intrigue.

It’s hard enough to make something in the intersection realm where death metal and grind come together interesting, but that doesn’t stop many, including Terra Builder, from trying their hand at making their own particular brand of chaos something that we can rally behind. In no small way, Terra Builder succeeds magnificently to make their first effort a bombastic effort that holds nothing back, constantly commands your respect at every turn, and makes damn sure to not leave so much as a trace of survivors once they’re thrown out into the void to be consumed by the freezing stretches of oblivion. Nine tracks that come together form the soundtracks to worlds ripping themselves apart, “Solar Temple” is a surprisingly engaging effort that never leaves anything on the table nor fails to deliver the goods in such a way that leaves more than enough of an impact on you such that by the end of the record with its deafening silence, the chaos beckons you back in for another round. Chaos is the name of the game throughout the whole of this record with Terar Builder more than up for the task as it’s through gnarly riffs, unyielding gravity, and unbound aggression that births several nebulae but the tip of the spear for what “Solar Temple” dares to bring into existence. Nothing is off the table for Terra Builder’s brand of extremity where nothing is over until the last foolish breath of life is snuffed out of this realm, and this album is a terrific first offensive towards achieving that very goal.

Years have passed since I’ve been able to witness a band come into the world of death-grind and not just bring forth an interesting performance, but deliver something that is compelling right from the beginning and whose eviscerating presence can be felt well after it has in. “Solar Temple” achieves just that time and time again with Terra Builder starting down a path that is destined to be noteworthy even in its smallest moments, and the cosmos itself quivers in anticipation.
