Tumulation – Haunted Funeral Creations

Already, Tumulation means business. It was just earlier this year that we saw the act, who makes up the line-up for the equally magnificent Conjureth, deliver their first demo that was a beast in its own rights given that it was but the beginning for whatever it was that Tumulation would deliver in the future, but I don’t think many of us could have expected to see more from the act so soon. Clearly, though, these guys don’t play around in any sense whatsoever as it is not just their speed of production that is surprising but the quality that comes with it is just as powerful as can be seen in every given instance of their first full-length album.

Incorporating the finished and ever so slightly polished versions of the songs that we got with “Savage Blood Domain”, “Haunted Funeral Creations” certainly seems to lean more towards the death metal side of Tumulation’s with the doom elements seeming to be used more selectively for added impact when they do come around with it absolutely being felt from one track to the next. With that slight change of sound, though, it would be an insult to insinuate that Tumulation has lost any bit of their intensity. A tremendous embodiment of what it means to keep your metal thick, cannibalistic, and unrelentingly violent every step of the way, even the strategic pullbacks are utilized such that they really lay in the atmosphere and flavors that really propels “Haunted Funeral Creations” to be the best vehicle of corruption that it can possibly be. Just as capable of immense dirges of raw, unfettered darkness as they are bursts of madness that seep right into the most bottomless pits of the soul, it should go without saying that Tumulation has made the best of their first large body of work with it rising from the crypts as a vessel of pulsating undeath the likes of which many of us are constantly salivating for. There’s no redemption or light to be had for the whole of this record with the very reality of “Haunted Funeral Creations” something that simply cannot be turned away from for its power is horrific to the highest degree. It’s in that dense blackness where Tumulation has quickly grown into a beast that is not to be underestimated lest it wretch you into its maw when you’re not looking.

Tumulation immediately made itself out to be a true deliverance of darkness and undeath with that initial demo, but it is here in this full-length that we see those promises brought into reality with all the horrors that come with it. Not a single opportunity is missed. No body is left untainted. No soul is left unscarred. No one left alive. Nothing but Tumulation upon the rotting carcass of the world will be all that’s left with “Haunted Funeral Creations” closes out.
