We’ve all been students of the old school whether or not we’re aware of it. While it is something that will always have a place in the world of metal, it is my firm belief that no two styles keep it in the present better than that of traditional heavy metal and thrash. Both can be quite difficult for many to bring to the table because of the immense legacies and the expectations that plenty would expect to come with it. It’s only a handful of times a year that I see works from each sound that actually lives up to that reputation to really show us that the sounds are still in good hands, and having my faith in heavy metal reaffirmed by the likes of Blazon Rite a moment ago, it is now Tyranex’s turn to do the same for thrash.
It’s a wonder to me that a band like this can be active for practically twenty years and never once come upon my radar until now. That’s part of the beauty that comes with the ever-expanding depths of the global underground, though, I suppose. In any case, Tyranex demands to have its name far more widespread. Just what’s been brought forth for “Reasons for the Slaughter” should be more than enough to rake in more fanatics for Tyranex as it is their clear love and understanding for classic thrash that doesn’t just give the album more than a little room to stand on, it easily enables the act to become a deadly force that is more than enough to consider the act a tour de force of long-established thrash metal that cannot be denied. Scathing riffage that’s combined magnificently with powerful vocals that have tremendous range that only add to the high-octane energies that pulsate in every given minute of “Reasons for the Slaughter”, this is thrash when it is simply able to be the best that it can possibly be without interference from any other style out there with the talent and power to back it all up so that this opportunity for flesh-melting excellence isn’t denied in the slightest. There have always been bands throughout the modern realm of thrash metal that keep us coming back for more with the quality nothing that we can ignore, and I find it to be an absolutely criminal act that it has taken this long for word of Tyranex to finally come around to my ears.
No new ground is broken here by any means, but it’s through true passion for the craft and the vision to execute it gloriously that “Reasons for the Slaughter” becomes far more than something that deserves to fall into the commotion of the modern scene. Tyranex is a name that I plan on keeping an incredibly sharp eye on in the future for if this is what they’re capable of now, I go crazy thinking of what is to happen when time ferments their talent even further. It is until then, however, “Reasons for the Slaught” is that vicious injection of adrenaline and speed that I’ve been desperately needing.
