Taking your time can really make the difference between any work becoming all that it can be or falling flat before it ever stands a chance for greatness. Plenty of bands out there exercise great patience when putting out records while some make it seem as easy as breathing, but that patience can often drag on. I’ve heard rumblings over the years of members from and formerly of Origin, Marduk, Benighted, and more collaborating for a truly caustic creation the likes of which would surely turn heads, but those of us on the outside could only wait to see what came of the project. Now, we are rewarded for our patience as it is with their debut album that Arborescence of Wrath doesn’t just arrive in grand fashion but with true fury and fire that are not to be denied in any form.
Feeling as though they’ve taken more than a few pages from the concept of Dante’s Inferno, “Inferno” itself is a voracious display of unapologetic brutality and hellfire the likes of which can only be done by those who know death metal inside and out. Easily, this record could have fallen to pieces in the chaos of it all but it’s through the combined experiences of everyone involved here that these nine tracks come together in a terrifying form that is more than capable of delivering the deepest kind of catharsis while never once failing to shed blood at any and every given opportunity. Hardly a moment of reprieve is given for the whole of “Inferno” as it is immediately that Arborescence of Wrath makes its presence and power known for all to cower from. You could single out any instrument that’s performed here and you will be met with a terrific display of mastery of the piece with the combination of them all enough to make your blood boil, seer flesh in the blink of an eye, and put the very fabric of reality to the torch. It’s an incredibly dense record right from the beginning, but it is made obvious at every turn that this debut is something that Arborescence of Wrath has taken great care in the crafting of. Be it the flames licking at the meager remnants of your soul or the voracious death metal that is the very embodiment of unrelenting, “Inferno” has more than enough to burn itself in the memories of all who come across it.
However long this album has been cooking for, it was clearly worth it. Everyone behind Arborescence of Wrath already had more than enough going for them when it comes to raw and tested talent that has the potential to stretch across reality to sow unending corruption the likes of which only the most vile and tenacious acts can summon. Clearly, they can do that in spades. “Inferno” has much to call its own, and whatever it is that is to come next, this is the first step forward into the blaze that many bands wish they could put forth.
