Deep Space Destructors – Voyage to Innerspace

Of all the things that I have come across in these thousands of reviews that I’ve done for almost ten years, many things are certain but this, in particular, is a truth that none of us can ever truly ignore: it’s never been a better time to become lost in all of psychedelia. Whether it’s the tripped-out riffs that doom metal can summon forth or the wildest excursions into an unpredictable, shifting jungle that bands like The Re-Stoned can bring forth, or dark passages in the forest from fringe metal acts like Arkheth, there is truly something for everyone out there. For those of us who are still fans of “straightforward” psych-rock that’s done tremendously well, Deep Space Destructors has become a name that one cannot ignore. Their back-catalog of records is nothing to underestimate, but it’s with their latest offering that things have taken quite a turn.

We could sit here all day and argue about the many different intricacies and nuances that are to be found within the dense and somewhat impenetrable realms of psychedelia, but there’s nothing that can be argued when we get a band that comes along to not just deliver a flavorful performance for multiple senses but one that puts forth a masterful display from all angles that truly feels at home in the dense mysteries of the cosmos. In no small way, that’s just the tip of the iceberg for what Deep Space Destructors brings to the table for the six expansive tracks of “Voyage to Innerspace”. Nothing is off-limits in the absolute entirety of this performance as Deep Space Destructors manages to wholly embody all that it means to be a space rock act from their presentation to their very name, and the themes alongside the intoxicating presence of “Voyage to Innerspace” is nothing to defy whatsoever in that same regard. A mind-bending journey that never once stops at riffs no matter how delectable or some unexpected turns no matter how grandiose they may be, “Voyage to Innerspace” is determined to take every opportunity to ensure that this isn’t a record that’s destined for obscurity. Rather, Deep Space Destructors pools all of their knowledge of the weird and prowess in the crazy to make this record the most captivating and powerful that it could possibly be without exception with the end result being something that I haven’t seen since the last piece from Black Space Riders.

Works like this are few and far between, and they demand to be respected for all that they are lest this wonder and otherworldly glory find itself bereft of the attention that it most certainly deserves without exception. Deep Space Destructors has been a name to know for a hot minute, but if there is to be any single piece from the act that demands you investigate their wondrous legacy to this point, how could I suggest anything other than “Voyage to Innerspace”?
