Between the dozens, if not hundreds, of legends that have come across our paths over the years, death metal has never been lacking in delivering such talent. We could spend an entire week debating on what bands are the greatest for one reason or another, but it simply cannot be argued that every breed of death metal fan has a major name be it new or veteran that loves to throw their weight around and constantly show us what they’re made of. In no small way, Dying Fetus has long been such a name. Alongside the likes of Cattle Decapitation and Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus is likely among the five biggest names dishing out new insanity in the world of death metal in 2023 with their ninth full-length album not one that anyone can dismiss.

It is always ever so tempting to simply write off any new material from a band like this as something that is destined for greatness out of the gate without so much as a second thought. That’s not always the case, however, and we must tread lightly, but it’s in the face of Dying Fetus that such caution is swiftly thrown out the window given the band’s track record and undeniable power that has yet to wane despite their well-earned high status. We already knew that they were nothing to fuck with given their last album, “Wrong One to Fuck With”, and it is with “Make Them Beg for Death” that such overwhelming dominance is only furthered with true power and ultimate blasphemy as the goals with jagged knives and infected wounds the driving forces to achieve that very madness. A massive presence that’s potent for the very whole of the performance as it’s all driven by homicidal riffs and oceans of blood, “Make Them Beg for Death” is a more than fitting title for anything that Dying Fetus could ever imagine to put out into the world for us to lose ourselves in with this iteration of their sound something that still manages to retain the insanity and murderous notions that the band has only perfected over time. Such a work is a slam dunk for a band as calculated in their depravity as Dying Fetus given that they’ve been honing their vicious craft for decades now with the only effect being widespread domination of every caliber. \

It doesn’t take much to see why Dying Fetus has attained its legendary status, and just one listen of “Make Them Beg for Death” will make you realize why that status will remain long after Dying Fetus throws in the towel. That could be some time, though, and it is now that we herald in the horrors of “Make Them Beg for Death” with all that it is more than worthy of joining its predecessors in a long discography of domination that has yet to weaken one bit over time.
