It is no secret that black metal has long looked upon the many different fallacies of humankind with disgust, disdain, and disappointment. For all that we could achieve together, it is all too often that we work against each other for the service of something without physical form or some beliefs that just don’t quite match up. That’s something that the sound has tackled many times over with varying levels of nuance and aggression with more than a few really showing us how it can be done on a completely different level. Woe has touched upon these themes in the past without going too deep into them, but with a tremendous shift in sound towards the more aggressive and faster, the time is now once again to show us how it’s done in exemplary fashion.

Taking form as a concept album that focuses on humanity’s self-centered perspective and self-destructive notions that are seen all through history including the present, “Legacies of Frailty” is as painful a record to absorb as it is fascinating to watch unfold. Six tracks of tempered power that are nothing to be turned down as Woe’s power has only gotten better with time, this album is sure to stand tall as one of the band’s best works to date without so much as a doubt to otherwise. We’re granted visions through dark riffs and the occasional haunting atmosphere where we see humanity on the precipe of oblivion as its endless crusades born through a twisted and self-righteous form of cannibalism upon each other that are all brought to life in vivid detail through Woe’s unmistakable power. Densely layered and nuanced in many differnt forms be it from the portrayals of twisting flame spreading across the globe or the skies darkneing over the fate of mankind, “Legacies of Frailty” is a thematically and sonically tremendous piece that has much to dive into should you be willing to really peel apart all that humanity has done to bring about its own end. Such a fate can often seem unavoidable given current events, and Woe is more than set on showing us along every step within “Legacies of Frailty” as the flames creep beyond the horizon and into our very homes with a warning that comes all too late.

Woe has been a rising name in the underground for all the right reasons with 2017’s “Hope Attrition” really laying the groundwork for Woe to really become something all its own with everything that’s gone into “Legacies of Frailty” dark excellence of a sort that demands the be experienced by any modern afficiando of black metal. Walk into the inferno and witness our undoing as a cautionary tale of what’s to happen should we not stray from this path lest Woe’s tremendous vision brought to life in this magnificent beast unfortunately come to pass be it in our lifetimes or our children’s.
