Few things have been as ubiquitous in recent times as what the modern scape of technical death metal has transmutated itself into. No other sound in all metal can come even close to what it has accomplished with fewer outside the world of metal able to say they’ve done the same for their respective sounds. We’ve seen hundreds of notable acts come out of the woodwork over the years, and Xoth’s entry upon the scene was nothing to deny! Their last album was a certifiable landmark release for tech-death in that year, and the prospect of a follow-up has been downright mouth-watering. With the release of “Exogalactic”, that prophecy has been fulfilled.
This is one of those pieces that requires several listens in order to really absorb all that has been thrown down, and, even then, there’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to take it all in. Xoth has shown with this album alone that they are undisputed masters of their craft, joining the ranks of many a rising name through the scene that through blood, sweat, and loads upon loads of talent have made this sound as exhilarating as possible. For all that they’ve achieved in “Exogalactic”, how can one not see this as the undeniable high point in Xoth’s run up to this point? Already, this album shows that Xoth is a cut above much of the rest. Fierce technicalities mixed spectacularly with an intergalactic backdrop, “Exogalactic” spares no lives in bringing naught but blighted flames upon any and every pathetic world that dares to come in the path of what this album has to throw down in any given moment. Be it in the subtler passages or full-on annihilation that seeks no less than the complete obliteration of life as we know it, Xoth is in top form in each of these eviscerating works.
This is what it means to take technical death metal to the depths of a black hole and consume its power without compromise, and “Exogalactic” is the perfect vessel to deliver such malevolence upon the universe! We’ve seen more than a few excellent attempts at bringing this kind of devastation to the stars and back over the years, and it is single-handedly with “Exogalactic” that Xoth does nothing less than demonstrate power that’s no less than ultimate.
“Exogalactic” releases on November 3rd via Dawnbreed Records!
