Given the landscape of all things psychedelic in the modern climate, it’s not hard to find new talent at practically any given turn so long as you’re actually paying attention. At any given time, there are plenty of new releases coming forth from the woodwork to offer us new experiences in other dimensions through visages wholly unique to the band in question. When it comes to Ritual King, they’ve been poised to really make their mark on the scene ever since their immensely flavorful eponymous album three years ago. The bar was set high with that record, but it’s with this new opus that Ritual King has fully completed its metamorphosis into an entity that simply cannot be denied.
Despite having only five tracks to call its own, “The Infinite Mirror” is the longest work from Ritual King and the record that more than solidifies this band has something much than simply another name that taps into what’s possible when you come into the realms of trippy riffs. Rather, Ritual King goes out of their way at every given opportunity to deliver an experience that is as dynamic as it is wildly engaging. We see Ritual King doubling down on their roots in blues music with the atmospheres, pacing, melodies, and songwriting as a whole coming together beautifully to bring forth a heavy blues creation that straddles psychedelic rock magnificently virtually without stumble. Some of their lengthiest material is to be had within “The Infinite Mirror” with all the majesty, color, and splendor that one could ask for from what’s only the band’s second full-length album. Just taking that simple piece into account really shows just how far Ritual King has come in an exceedingly short amount of time with only the best of the best able to pull it off in such a fashion that really catches the listener off-guard and compelled to experience only more. The twists and turns that “The Infinite Mirror” pulls off are utterly enchanting even in their humbler moments with the bursts of grandeur jaw-dropping in every given aspect.
I think many of us knew that Ritual King was an act to keep an eye on when their last album came around, but I don’t think many could have anticipated such a sharp climb in quality and magnificence like what we’re given here for the whole display of wonder that is “The Infinite Mirror”. Ritual King has quickly become a name not to underestimate with much of the scene already putty in their hands given their immense talent and undeniable understanding of the sound.
