For the very whole of the underground, there are thousands upon thousands of new acts out there that are vying for our attention with new material, many of which take the form of demos in a very large number of instances. The world of metal is no stranger to demos by any means whatsoever with many bands having some of their best material as demos with people constantly seeking new demos to point them in the direction of new and fresh talent. At first glance, many demos are unassuming with the reality of the quality within something that isn’t often discovered except by the incredibly curious. For all intents and purposes, Death Magick’s first demo is not one that deserves to be missed out on like hundreds of thousands of others that have come before.
Three tracks are hardly anything to get the attention of many in plenty of circumstances, but it is then that talent and intoxicating power come into play in order to draw people in and then get their tongues wagging. In no small way, that’s precisely what Death Magick pulls off with this seemingly humble but immense demo! Already sleek in style and loads of flavor to be had in each and every track, Death Magick puts forth a maliciously dark yet tantalizing array of heavy metal the likes of which feels like it would find itself right at home in the era of Satanic Panic where parents were utterly cowering in the corners of their homes at the thought of the Devil’s music coming for the souls of their children. Not so much as a moment is wasted here in this creation as it’s through riffs and a massive presence throughout the whole of the demo as Death Magick exudes a dramatically dark essence that ties everything together beautifully such that even if you were to somehow turn yourself away from such a performance, the vicious hooks of Death Magick would pull you back in.
The spells that are woven throughout this release are what the most delectable of nightmares are made from with Death Magick doing far more than just whetting the pallette with this demo that could have very easily been little more than a jumble of uncompleted, unpolished songs for the band to throw out into the waters hoping for someone to bite. Rather, this performance puts the band’s best possible foot forward with nothing short of an intoxicating experience for heavy metal that we simply don’t get to see often enough. We are at but the beginning for what Death Magick is to throw down, and I can only hope it’s not long before we hear more.
