Lucid Sins – Dancing in the Dark

Without even a shred of exaggeration to be had, there is no school quite like the old school. That goes in particular for all things music as those long-travelled veins are held in high reverence no matter the style with metal and rock far from the exception. Both sounds have had tremendous booms in recent years of bands coming out of the woodwork to pay homage to the sounds of decades past with plenty coming around to put forth material that is as surprising as it is potent for all the right reasons. When things start getting psychedelic in these scenarios, we’ve been lucky enough to be blessed by some real talent over the years throughout this renaissance. With their third album, Lucid Sins puts forth what has to be the most impressive display of such that I’ve come across in months.

We’re no longer in the days where there are a few bands out there still tapping into what many proto-doom bands were trying to accomplish decades ago with many fresh names coming about in recent times to show us just how much more there still is to be done with hundreds trying their hand at delivering justice for the sound. Armed with ten hypnotic tracks and a band name that is all too perfect for the overall sound, Lucid Dreams steals the show at every given turn with the immense magic that they wove to bring “Dancing in the Dark” to life in such an exquisite form. Out of the gate with this record, Lucid Sins makes it obvious that they’re not playing around in the slightest. Taking their time to really let their particular sound marinate over a runtime that covers much of what proto-doom, psychedelic rock, and even a good helping of folk is capable of when it brought together expertly in such a form that compels you to dive further into the woods where Lucid Sins holds complete dominion as the record goes on. We’re treated to riffs abounding in transcendent smoke that is nigh on intoxicating with the magic and rhythms of “Dancing in the Dark” working like the sweetest and most delectable narcotic upon your senses. Once Lucid Sins commences its rituals, you are spiritually bound by its ebbs and flows with little thought of escape for why would you want to slither away from such magnificent bliss?

This is what happens when a comeback of a sound like this reaches a certifiable peak. We’ve seen hundreds upon hundreds of different bands formed to try and do justice to this particular style that never got enough credit when it first came around, and it’s because of bands like Lucid Sins that we’re able to bask in its glory without so much as a shred of disappointment to be had in the whole of its runtime. “Dancing in the Dark” has so much to offer, you simply need to let it take you.
