Eretia – Quietud

I have had the immense pleasure of losing myself in many of the sounds that grace the incredibly wide spectrums of rock and metal music over the years with more than a few of the contemporary styles certainly material that I’ve dabbled in, but some far more than others. When it comes to sounds like hardcore, I’ve always known there’s excellence to be hard within its confines, but I choose to remain incredibly selective with my ventures into the sound so that my wonder for the sound doesn’t quickly fade. There’s nothing quite like taking a quick peek every so often to know that things are still going quite well. With the latest offering from Eretia, I’m given yet another peek that I can’t help but find immensely delectable.

Relatively quick offerings like this are where a band can really set themselves apart from much of their competition even if there isn’t much time to work with, but it’s when things come together well that quality becomes undeniable in such instances. “Quietud” is a tremendous example of that with Eretia excellently playing into the long-established characteristics that hardcore has cultivated over the decades with Eretia doing them more than enough justice at virtually every given turn. However, that doesn’t mean that’s everything Eretia has to offer with their clear influence from the many different corners of post-metal and post-rock coming into significant play for the whole of these seven tracks. Rather than becoming a one-dimensional act whose sound does go through any sort of variation or possess any kind of dynamic nature, “Quietud” sees Eretia embracing a sound that we’ve seen in plenty of other instances but it’s through a clear understanding of how to bring it about in immense style that the EP takes on a cathartic and undeniably capturing embodiment that leaves nothing on the table be it in terms of melody, intensity, or raw, unfettered emotion.

Unassuming for many who may be scouring the depths of Bandcamp, Eretia has made something that is undoubtedly a piece that is more than worth your time if you’re into any kind of hardcore, post-metal with a particularly aggressive side, and likely much in between. “Quietud” has much more to offer than what one might suspect with those who do venture into the creation sure to find that Eretia has more than enough to scratch a particular itch that very few others are able to satisfy.
