Black Eucharist – Inn of the Vaticide

By all means, black metal is home to the most blasphemous sites in all of the metal spectrum. After decades of carefully curating to bring that reality into being, it doesn’t take much to see that the status quo is still very much the same with black metal acts new and old still making damn sure that the supposed holy light finds no source or love within its boundaries. As is the case with many of the sound’s different avenues, there are always those who manage to stand out from their contemporaries as it’s their power and dominion that holds the most sway. With this being but their first piece of material since a demo four years ago, Black Eucharist has arrived upon the unholy scene with more than enough splendor and hellfire to immediately get our attention.

There are certainly different levels and degrees to the depravity which many throughout black metal use to their advantage be it to simply add a little bit of flavor to the mix or to really go all-in and show the listener that they don’t fuck around for so much as an instant, never once being afraid to take things to a demented and disturbing extent. In every single one of these eight tracks, Black Eucharist embodies the latter. For everything that they bring to the table for “Inn of the Vaticide”, it’s all fueled by a devilish black flame that scorches and scars the very earth in its path with not a single soul safe should it find itself ensnared. “Inn of the Vaticide” wastes no time in making sure that the listener knows precisely the kind of madness that they’re in for. Be it through scathing riffs or the declaration of damnation upon vast swathes of holy kingdoms, Black Eucharist does a tremendous job at living up to the reputation this breed of black metal has long held itself up to with this record only furthering that glorious suffering. There have always been more than a few offerings of this exact kind of blasphemy and nastiness throughout much of what black metal has brought to the table over years, yet it’s with immense power, clear and focused vision, and more than enough riffs that Black Eucharist makes an entry the likes of which should give every fan of the sound immense whiplash from turning their heads so quickly to look upon the dark majesty.

Given a sound such as this has long been perfected and well-defined for decades now, it’s not a big deal to see bands do it justice anymore but to see one come around with its first big step into the underground being as impressive and masterful as what Black Eucharist puts forth here, how can one not become incredibly excited by such a sight? The aggression, contempt, and power that’s constantly pouring out of “Inn of the Vaticide” is nothing to be underestimated lest it condemn you to eternally burn in lakes of magma with those enlightened by this dark work surely eager for another helping sooner rather than later.
