The rising of a new band is always something that’s given the benefit of the doubt with loads of optimism as far as the eye can see, but it’s not terribly often that we see the reality of those situations stack up with the hopes and dreams of many new and potential listeners. Once in a few hundred or so, though, we’re given the arrival of something that cannot be denied for all that it offers. Having a pair of EPs already under their belt, Resin Tomb is not making their first moves upon the underground with this new effort, but it is in every way their biggest step yet that will surely stand as an exception to a fate that befalls many new acts with this creation of the sort that grabs ahold of your very soul never to let go before you’re wholly siphoned dry.

It’s hard enough to make an impact with your first big body of work already, yet it’s another thing altogether to come forth with an understanding of your sound that feels no less than deadly, competent, and effective all in one fell swoop to really show people that you mean business in every possible form. Without so much as a shred of exaggeration, Resin Tomb achieves precisely what for the entirety of the eight tracks that “Cerebral Purgatory” uses as a template for evisceration of the human in both soul and flesh. Death metal with more than a good helping of sludge to really give that extra edge of ferocity that Resin Tomb puts to extremely good use, this is a debut the likes of which has been carefully crafted for maximum punishment upon the listener with cruelty unbound in virtually every given instance. A ferocious performance that uses every ounce of its being to pummel and destroy no matter the cost, “Cerebral Purgatory” is the chaotic and unbridled kind of death metal that’s virtually perfect to start off any new year with as Resin Tomb capitalizes on every opportunity that’s found before them with the past experience coalesced by its members certainly coming into play here with it paying off in spades in each and every track. This is what it means to take death and sludge metal in one cohesive package and have it be no less than ultimately horrific to behold lest you prepare yourself for the onslaught. Should you do so, “Cerebral Purgatory” quickly becomes a glorious template for horror and disorder stretching far beyond the horizon to such a degree that the mind can barely comprehend such magnificence.

In no small form, this is the kind of album many bands hope to craft upon their first time crafting a full-length record. Everything about what Resin Tomb has brought forth with “Cerebral Purgatory” exudes confidence and staggering mastery. From its pummeling approach to breakneck pace to the simple reality that is the devastation brought about by the piece, Resin Tomb has made a proper entry into the underground that we certainly need to pay heed to.
