All too often do we still hear people from all over the world try to claim that rock is dead or metal is dead or there’s nothing good past any arbitrary year or all the best albums are in the past. That’s the sort of ignorance that drives me insane, for if you were to take even so much as a proper glance upon the scene as a whole, you would find it absolutely thriving without so much as a shred of compromising quality in any corner or vein of the genre. Straight heavy metal, in particular, is one sound that many tend to think has its glory days in the past, but we still constantly see talent coming out of the woodwork to show us just how much splendor and unyielding magnificence there is to be had. With their newest album, Satan’s Fall stands as the latest testament to such an obvious truth.
Practically everything about this record oozes with passion for what heavy metal has always been in more ways than one: a magnificent romp that holds nothing back, is not afraid to really go for throat, tremendous energy in every given moment, and more than enough love for the sound to do it justice at virtually every single turn. In a nutshell, “Destination Destruction” comes to the final experience of the record nothing that any real fan of heavy metal should be able to easily turn away from. Straightforward without compromising their own flavors in order to bring forth an authentic creation of heavy metal that holds nothing back, it’s clear that Satan’s Fall is on the path to ultimate glory within the sound if this record has anything to take away. The core ideals of heavy metal itself are constantly in the limelight with so much power, melody, and emotion packed into the eight tracks such that when you realize they’ve finally come to an end, you’re suddenly finding yourself scrambling to replay “Destination Destruction” so that the sweet, sweet euphoria does not diminish for so much as an instant. Virtually nothing is taken away from that original sound we’ve all become so familiar with bar the personality and minor intricacies of what Satan’s Fall brings to the table, yet those truly make the record. Rather than being a bland copy of Manowar or Judas Priest, “Destination Destruction” rises above the meet the challenge head-on with naught but bloody victory in its sights.
This is the kind of heavy metal that we’re always looking for. No frills, all passion, exquisite talent, and nothing short of a damn good time for everybody involved as you can really feel the passion of Satan’s Fall in every possible note that weaves its way into the ear of the listener. Satan’s Fall hasn’t been dishing out excellence for even ten years now, but it’s clear with this sophomore effort that they’re on the clear path to domination should they only stay the course.
