In the vast array of it all, thrash metal has had the liberty of taking on a great many forms while almost always retaining core values of speed purely because of how simple and universal such a concept is, especially in the world of metal. Whether you’re seeking to emulate the golden age of the sound or hoping to infuse it with some other contemporary styles like death or black metal, there is more than enough room to work with and be able to find a clear path forward to unyielding devastation. Oftentimes, however, it can seem as though some struggle in allowing those thrash flavors to still play a part in the overarching work without letting them become mere background notes more than anything else. Some, however, like Bestial Reviler, manage to find that balance in such a way that immediately enables the material in question to take on a truly massive and menacing form.
Despite having thrown in the towel initially almost a decade ago, the call of a speedy inferno called Bestial Reviler to return from the grave in such a form that was foreboding right from the start with not so much as a moment of reprieve to be had for any who find themselves before such a malevolent tempest. Whatever it was that has been brewing in the minds behind Bestial Reviler during that hiatus has clearly been swirling quite viciously as it is with the first offensive back from the grave, fittingly named “Accursed Resurrection”, that this trio makes damn sure to make an impression out of the very gate. With a runtime that doesn’t even cross 16 minutes overall, Bestial Reviler does nothing but put forth glorious murder at every turn here. Be it in the form of skin-peeling speed, devilish riffs, or an offbeat approach that embodies much of what Bestial Reviler has thrown down in the past, “Accursed Resurrection” sees this act return to the underground in such style wielding unstopping and unfettered aggression that is nothing to take lightly lest it make you its newest victim whose body has no hopes of identification. Along with the sharp combination of both death and black metal to make this thrash-centered creation nothing to underestimate when it comes to its own ferocity no matter what form it embodies, “Accursed Resurrection” is far from a one-note and one-dimensional creation that thrash has become all too familiar with. Bestial Reviler knew precisely how to make a powerful return with this brief but deadly EP, and it’s clear in every minute how effective they are at doing so.
No matter how long Bestial Reviler continues its onslaught of underground torment, this EP shows us that they’re already more than capable of eviscerating devastation should they simply be given the chance with the prospect of unholy resurrection something that felt like an undeniable driving force behind this work. When there is no more room in Hell, Bestial Reviler will roam the earth yet again, and it’s with “Accursed Resurrection” that this act shows us why such a thing is as horrific as it is magnificent to behold for those of us who yearn to witness such carnage.
