There’s nothing that can denied about the uncompromising and outright homicidal extreme metal that doesn’t even try to hide its dark nature, constantly inviting the listener deeper into its chasms where only traps await them along with their naive souls. When it’s done right, nothing in existence can stand in the way of such an abominable force. In the realms of death-doom, in particular, can such malformations of life take on particularly deadly forms whose stench and horrific forms go on a different level altogether than what others are able to conjure. Many try to bring such nastiness and filth to life with the exceptional only able to deliver the goods. Without exception, Abyssal Rift achieves that and more with its debut full-length album.

From the very beginning of this record, it is made painfully obvious that this record is downright sinister. Nothing is held back nor is there a shred of light given mercy for the whole of this record as Abyssal Rift makes a point throughout every point of its first full-length record to show the listener that if there is anything to gain from its entirety that hope is certainly not it. This is death-doom that is truly carnivorous. Between the riffs that call the very sky to fall apart like fragile marble and the atmospheres that are as dank as they are unapologetically thick, “Extirpation Dirge” is not an experience made to leave survivors by the end of its terrors. Armed with past experience in the metal underground and a clear reverence for this kind of darkness, it was only natural that Abyssal Rift would take to this record with such enthusiasm with the results as high as what we see here with there being so much power and clear attention to detail that it makes one wonder how such a typhoon of madness couldn’t have come about. “Extirpation Dirge” is a textbook showcase of what it means to bring true chaos in the form of an unending offensive that spares nothing in its path and leaves only a flaming muck in its wake where none dare tread afterwards.

Deadly, powerful, and utterly overwhelming from the start, “Extirpation Dirge” seeks to destroy and consume all that it can before it eventually turns on itself in a desperate clawing attempt to sate its terrible hunger. There is naught that can stand in the path of such a tremendous force that demands more and more until creation in its entirety is snuffed out down to the last particle of pathetic matter. Abyssal Rift has made its presence more than known with this debut, and may any who defy such an unstoppable presence suffer a quick death while those of us left behind have no choice but to worship through absolute, tyrannical fear.
