On occasion, death metal can take on an exceptionally beastly form. Already is the style renowned for its intensity and macabre subjects that hold nothing back in ways of violence, but there is always room for a fresh name to come around and not just subvert our expectations but truly remind us what all is still capable of within the wide realms of death metal. It was just three years ago that Hadit showed us what they were capable of in such a form with their first full-length album, and it is here with their second that they’ve only become masterful in their overwhelming craft.

In the right hands, death metal be transmuted into such a form that can be downright frightening and otherworldly to gaze upon. It can take on some truly horrifying breeds of psychedelia that you would be hard-pressed to find anywhere else in the vast underground of all that music can be while some blend many different styles together to make a sound virtually unrecognizable despite still retaining those elements of brutality and evisceration such that the death metal is always present in some form or another. Pound for pound, Hadit is just such an act with “Metaphysical Engines Approaching the Event Horizon” a performance the rends the soul, disintegrates flesh, and dominates at every turn. An utterly dominating experience that pulls no punches and doesn’t relent until you’ve left every part of this mortal plane, “Metaphysical Engines” is dynamic in every sense with each stage of production only further adding to the grandiose noise with which Hadit uses to rip apart the very fabric of existence. Nowhere is safe from the terror and overwhelming power of what Hadit! Downright apocalyptic in its more grandiose exhibitions while maintaining a constant sense of dread even in its smallest moments, Hadit has delivered a performance that many only with they could bring to the table.

Exceedingly dense and all the more terrific because of it, “Metaphysical Engines” is what it means to see death metal twisted into such a form that bear multiple listens, the willingness to venture right into the flames, and the passion to suffer in order to see such magnificent glory. This is what it means to achieve greatness in the vast underground, and Hadit sound at home for all of it.
