Vøidwomb – Spiritual Apotheosis

For all that has come to pass in the vast underground of metal, the darkness where many bands have resided in for decades has only succeeded in becoming ever darker. As such, there is always a select group of acts that have always sought to excavate those deepest of territories for one reason or another, and such efforts have born terrifying fruit in some of the most scathing and unrelenting efforts the underground has seen thus far. Black metal, in particular, is exceedingly good at diving into those very depths with only the best able to show us new sights into such a maddening realm. By all accounts, Vøidwomb is one such act whose proper entry is something to be heralded.

It was just three years ago that Vøidwomb made its entry into the scene with so much potential already on display in that initial EP that the prospect of a follow-up actually warranted the use of being dubbed highly anticipated – a phrase that people are far too loosey-goosey with nowadays. Now, Vøidwomb has risen from nothingness once again to offer us the display that is sure to define their run wherever it takes us from here on out. This is black metal of a different sort that many of us aren’t used to. Not reliant on riffs or the imagery that much of the sound has leaned on to great success over the decades, the power that “Spiritual Apotheosis” offers is nothing that is to be taken lightly whatsoever lest your soul be lost forward in the abyss Vøidwomb dives into. Sinister in its ritualistic tendencies, what Vøidwomb offers us throughout “Spiritual Apotheosis” is nothing short of what happens when black metal takes a turn into a dimension the likes of which is rarely tapped into where real menace, foreboding atmospheres, and awe-inspiring musicianship intersect. It was already evident on their first EP, but it is in every given moment throughout this sprawling work of true darkness that Vøidwomb delivers on a level I don’t think many of us were expecting.

This is malice on a scale only black metal of this ilk could ever hope to conjure up. Where power and terror merge into a tremendous performance that’s as dense as it is menacing, Vøidwomb more than knows how to deliver the goods without fail. “Spiritual Apotheosis” is not something to take lightly lest you fall for the schemes at play behind the work with it as a whole something that’s clearly driven by sinister intent.

“Spiritual Apotheosis” releases on April 26th via Avantgarde Music!
