Horndal – Head Hammer Man

At some point, the best bands deviate from conventional paths altogether to really show us what they’re made of when they can properly stretch their legs, become unburdened by stylistic constraints, and just let loose. Those that are ambitious enough to go for such a shift aren’t always given the proper credit, so it’s up to those of us who discover such works to spread the word of the greatness when such works present themselves to us. By every extent, Horndal is more than deserving of such a treatment with their forthcoming album far more than what I could have possibly anticipated with it sure to catch plenty more off-guard for all that it dares to be.

It’s already enough of a tremendous feat of craftsmanship for a band to come together and deliver a performance that’s well and truly eclectic on such a level that leaves many utterly fascinated by what’s been put forth. Thus, a name that’s able to deliver on such a high level is something that demands to be heralded with “Head Hammer Man” effortlessly bringing Horndal up to a level they’ve always been building up to. No source of inspiration was spared in the making of these ten immense tracks that show off the diverse backgrounds from which Horndal hails and how much they’re able to transmute it all into such a form that leaves one’s jaw simply right on the floor as there isn’t so much as a single weak minute in the entirety of the album. A constantly shifting effort that shows us that Horndal’s arsenal of talent is virtually all-encompassing, “Head Hammer Man” also holds immense credit to a historic figure, Alrik Andersson, who’s largely unsung story of fighting for the people serves as the backdrop to the titanic power which Horndal displays at every turn to not just show off how inspired the band is by the events, but how powerful one man’s actions reverberate throughout time. A truly spell-binding performance that borrows from so many different styles wrapped in an undeniable shroud of fluid metal, Horndal has crafted a spectacular listen that knew its purpose from the beginning and fulfills it all to glorious results.

This is metal that cannot be easily pinned down in one sound as Horndal ensures its puts forth an experience that the listener should not soon forget, and much like the spirit of man who achievements are finally given proper credit, “Head Hammer Man” cannot be easily kept silent.
