When we look upon the whole of what can be done within the different realms of psychedelic rock, it can effortlessly seem as though the possibilities are truly endless – and they are! – even if there are many who seem content in treading the same ground over and over again despite the nature of the style itself. Thankfully, we live in an age where exploration into those regions of unbound potential is quite common with there being more than a few acts out there trying to carve out their own homes in the formless reaches. For their debut album, Cloud People sought to bring more than a little bit of jazz and electronica to bring their sound to life with the results precisely what we need more of!

At first glance, it really does seem as though Cloud People is going along the same path that many in the land of instrumental psych rock with it having more than a bit of trippiness to lay over some catchy rhythms that can amount to anywhere between euphoria and disappointment in the face of potential splendor. By and large, though, “Simulacra” does not leave the listener wanting more in any way, shape, or form. Eight utterly expansive tracks that are as gripping as they are undeniably flavorful, this is an album that bear hugs the listener, hurtling them through the churning cosmos on a journey that neither truly know where they may end of, but that’s okay. The pulsating colors match with the immense riffs while the ponderings of Cloud People really allow the album to greatly expand outward whilst there’s a constant albeit thin thread that’s keeping you tethered to reality as the electronic beats and flashes of awe-inspiring majesty keep you rooted into place such that the wonder of “Simulacra” lasts far beyond your initial spin of the piece. So full of life and light that it all becomes the epitome of contagious, “Simulacra” is not something that can simply be put down. Where many seek psychedelic rock out for its calming and entrancing tendencies, Cloud People takes a different road that sees this debut thrive in the glory of invigorating, energetic excellence that cannot be turned down.

This year continues to be an absolute bastion of all things psychedelia, and Cloud People demand to be given a spot when it comes to recollecting the greatest of what has transpired within those very realms with this being a creation that is nigh on intoxicating from beginning to end. There’s so much to fall in love with for all that “Simulacra” brings to the table! You need only fall back and allow the album to take your hand wherever it leads.
