With all that can be done within the realms of power metal, it’s almost disappointing to see how unoften the sound is able to still deliver quality acts even after years of many attempts whether or not some of them are assuredly interesting from beginning to end. Hands down, out of all that I’ve heard in recent years, Krilloan still stands out from the crowd with all that it has managed to accomplish in its short run. It was with their debut just a few years ago that Krilloan made waves for all the right reasons, and now it’s with their return that we’re only reminded of why they made such a commotion in the first place.

You would think that there would be tons of potential and glory before me after all these years given the vast amounts of influence, possibility, and raw talent that’s to be had in damn near every corner of the current state of power metal. And yet, Krilloan manages to be one of a handful of names that I find myself crawling back to time after time with their power only increasing over time. Without a doubt, “Return of the Heralds” only furthers that trend. A real tour de force of what the genre is still able to thrown down when it’s put in the hands of the passionate and extremely capable, Krilloan shows us once again what it means to be true warriors of the sound. Absolutely abound with riffs and epics in equal measure, “Return of the Heralds” holds nothing back as it stands as the natural sonic progression of what this act has been throwing down since its first EP while still managing to define the very best of what power metal can be in all of its viciously invigorating splendor! With the sun burning bright on their shoulders and the battlefield their’s to conquer, how can one simply not become utterly enraptured by what has been put forth here? This is what the style has always hailed as what it can be in some of its best iterations with only the best of the best able to ascertain that wonder and brilliant magnificence. While their future still remains shrouded as it does for everybody else, one cannot help but feel as though Krilloan is encroaching on the very top of the food chain.

This is an effort that pictures the absolute best of what this genre has always been capable of throwing down. From its epic battles to hearty rhythms to its raw intoxication factor, “Return of the Heralds” is a more than fitting title for a record that sees a premier act like Krilloan return to the forefront in spectacular fashion. While the competition may put up a fight, none can resist nor repel the might of these skilled warriors.
