I think it is pretty safe to say that we’re living in a time that feels like a real paradise for the likes of any fan of stoner music be it in the form of rock or metal. There are those that would make fair arguments to the contrary, but from where I’m standing I cannot help but feel as though this particular layer of the underground realm is having one hell of a time with bands of all styles, creeds, and notions coming forth to show us just how much there still is within a sound that can effortlessly be labelled as stale if it were to have fallen into lesser hands. Every few years, we get a new band that feels like the sensation we’re always on the edge of our seats waiting for. Slomosa was easily one of those names when they came out with their debut, and their sophomore piece only cements their rising status.

In the wrong set of hands, a sound with as much promise as stoner rock can effortlessly become a lifeless creation that has no real power, significance, or presence to call its own while there are others throughout the scene that are undeniable masters of the craft. When a grand work of stonerism comes around, very rarely does it go under the radar without many heralding the work for all that it can offer with that certainly holding true for Slomosa when they put out their debut album four years ago. That album was everywhere when it came around, and it’s the follow-up of “Tundra Rock” that Slomosa is poised to do the very same yet again. Every given inch of these nine tracks are positively oozing with everything that has always made stoner rock the powerhouse of intoxicating riffs and tremendous spirit that we know it as today with Slomosa rising to the occasion beat for beat here. Whether you want a gripping anthem or a barrage of pummeling riffs that know no end, Slomosa is more than ready to punch your ticket with this album encapsulating only the very best aspects of the sound with all the talent, splendor, and wow-factor to really make the record pop in virtually every form. Where many have sought to rise out of nothingness to show us what they can do, few have come as far in as little time as Slomosa with “Tundra Rock” all the proof one could need.

When considering the very future of the genre itself, Slomosa is a name that simply must be brought into the discussion. Even as we find ourselves surrounded by plenty of worthy names that offer more than enough to put them on the map in the world of stoner rock, Slomosa is one that shines brighter than far many others. For all that went into the crafting of “Tundra Rock”, the sheer mastery of it all is something that cannot be questioned.
