Isolert – Wounds of Desolation

It is one thing to take the steps forward through the underground to make yourself known amongst such stiff competition, but it’s another thing altogether to succeed where countless others have struggled or outright failed before you. At any given moment, there are always names throughout the dense darkness of black metal that qualify as such names but it can be a matter of luck if we’re to come upon them. In the case of Isolert, I find myself lucky that I’ve been exposed to the name not too long ago, but it was just in time to really witness their blossoming on another level with all that’s been summoned for their third full-length album.

Having made themselves known as one of the hottest names to keep an eye on in all that Greek black metal has been throwing our way lately, it feels damn near inevitable that a work like this would have come about sooner or later. Although, looking back on their previous work, “World in Ruins”, and seeing all that work accomplished, the growth and grandeur of what’s brought forth within the eight tracks of “Wounds of Desolation” only feel natural. A tremendous evolution of what’s come before it and sharper than ever before, “Wounds of Desolation” is black metal vicious and unyielding in the most terrific form. Not so much as a moment is wasted throughout the whole of this performance with Isolert expanded aggressively on virtually every aspect of their sound. Simply devilish in its combining of melodies, ripping solos, essential black metal voraciousness, and all of the aggression that one could ask for out of black metal with real personality that never once forgets its roots, this is high knowledge over the craft undeniable! Time has only sweetened the talent and power of Isolert that has always been clear for those of us that have been lucky enough to experience the band before, but it is here with every given piece that goes into “Wounds of Desolation” that we should all consider ourselves lucky for basking in the warmth of such a glorious blazing inferno over which Isolert commands complete mastery over.

Long has it been clear that the Greek scene in all that it has to offer is far from weak or lacking in quality. As one of many, Isolert still manages to stand out in such a form that feels downright intoxicating to behold for all that they’ve brought to the table with this creation surely their crowning achievement to date. The culmination of nine years toiling away at black metal the likes of which one cannot easily turn away from, “Wounds of Desolation” is a grand work that demands to be experienced for all that it dares to summon forth.
