Of all the rising names that have come across our plates over the years, there are always a few that stand out far more than the rest for one reason or another. These are the beacons that can always get us to rise from a stupor of any strength and rally people to their rhythms and power unlike the vast majority of any other scene out there. Every style has a handful of names that qualify as such with psychedelic rock and its contemporaries far from the exception. In an absolutely immense year for the sound, to see Psychlona come around to add their growing presence to the mix is only fitting.

Having made its name known the world over in their circles, to not know Psychlona simply by name is to be woefully out of the loop, in my opinion. Their rise has been an absolute joy to bear witness to with their power and grandeur only growing with time like the finest of wines to make their particular brand of stoner rock no less than the raw embodiment of the only the best of what the genre can become when it’s put into the best of hands. It has been every two years since 2018 that Psychlona has come back around to deliver a new offering to show us just how intoxicating they’ve become with the arrival of “Warped Vision” continuing that trend for both the band’s release schedule and its stupendous growth. One testament to the very best of stoner rock after another, these eight tracks, much like the band’s preceding albums, are no less than euphoria manifested into the aural form. A true tirade of riffs and an undeniably infectious attitude that permeates every given aspect of “Warped Vision” to make it not just another magnificent effort in a growing discography from one of the need-to-know acts in the entire scene, it quickly becomes an essential experience for any fan of the genre with there not being a single excuse to not being able to at least investigate such a piece. In a year that has been no less than ginormous for all things in psychedelia, Psychlona coming back to us is damn near tear-inducing.

This is the simplest and purest vision of what it means to be deeply passionate about your craft and know how to bring it about in such fashion that it can effortlessly leave listeners simply floored. While we’ve been utterly spoiled with loads of other talent throughout the year, “Warped Vision” could very well be the last great stop for psychedelia in rock that 2024 will throw our way, but I have been wrong before. Whatever is to follow next, it demands to be made clear that Psychlona is still very much so at the top of the food chain with this album but another grand addition to their arsenal that offers tons of power and grandeur to an already-impressive repertoire.
