Paganizer – Flesh Reqiuem

As is the case with every given style of music on the planet, metal has its fair share of icons. Even in the more niche styles like drone or funeral doom metal, there are a handful of names that immediately comes to mind. Death metal is no different with the Swedes having more than a few household names that leap out whenever we come to the land for quality death metal the likes of which only they can throw down. Having been one of those very faces of decades now, Paganizer is one whose power has yet to wane with time. One would expect such a travesty to hit this band sooner or later, but it’s now only the precipice of yet another full-length that the act still seems as indomitable as ever.

For ages now, Paganizer has been the kind of act that embodies only the finest of what many consider Swedish death metal to be for all that it can be. Despite all the names that have risen and fallen with many of those albums coming and going as the years have piled on, the sheer terror of Paganizer has yet to leave us for long before returning for another offensive that is simply terrifying in its efficiency of torture, murder, and mutilation. Just two years after their last full-length outing (with another EP coming in not even two weeks as of this typing), “Flesh Requiem” is but another testament to the raw monolithic power that Paganizer commands with horrific power. An imposing creation compiled of undead riffage and constantly moved forward by an unholy will of an ilk that only bands of this caliber can harness with such consistent potency with their especially brutal brand of necromancy something to be feared. It’s an extremely tempered approach for a band as seasoned with Paganizer as we bear witness to executions undeniably compelling as “Flesh Requiem” continuously lumbers forward. Death metal unyielding and brutality irrefutable, this is what it means to have your craft known inside and out on an intimate level the likes of which few can ever hope to emulate.

This is Paganizer as true masters of their craft. Where many seek to define what it means to be Swedish death metal, Paganizer has been accomplishing that feat of strength for decades with everything brought to the table within “Flesh Reqiuem” one brutal reminder of that fact after another.
