Concrete Winds – s/t

For all intents and purposes, there are regions of the underground that are simply impenetrable by those looking for anything that comes even close to “accessible”. Thriving in the absurdity and chaos that comes with allowing the tendencies of madness to take the wheel, there are those that seek to harness that very madness. However, it is not often that we’re given an act that actually able to tap into such potential. It becomes quickly with their latest work that Concrete Winds is anything but a typical beacon of such intensity.

All too easy can it be to craft something that has little sense of direction, if any at all, but it is another thing all together to prevent such a creation from veering wildly back and forth with a purpose behind the veil of what can only be considered overwhelming madness. Bringing together much of what has always made this corner of the metal underground particularly scathing, Concrete Winds clearly knew what they were doing every step of the way with their eponymous effort that sees flames and ruin wherever they walk. Not coming even close to clocking over thirty minutes for the runtime, this is an effort not for the weak of heart whatsoever. A simply unrelenting piece that holds nothing back and is never once content until your heart is bleeding and beating faintly upon the floor, this is what it means to be focused but truly insane with your craft of voracious insanity. With more than enough riffs and surprising rhythm, Concrete Winds sets itself apart from the competition at practically every given turn. Across many works have we seen different acts succeed in constructing works that individually are true walls of sound, cavernous in their depth, overflowing with its homicidal tendencies, all-consuming, or simply captivating for all that it dares to bring to the table. Rarely do we see all of that brought together in one devastating package. One may look upon a work on this length and feel like it’s too shallow with not enough time to bring all those elements to life, but just a few minutes within the creation will force on to realize that Concrete Winds puts in more than enough madness to initiate the torment of a million lifetimes.

This is the kind of record that demands you surrender the entirety of your being unto if you have any hope to understand what it tries to be, the nuances of its eviscerations, and appreciate the grandiosity of what Concrete Winds is throwing down in each of these nine thundering tracks. The underground has never been lacking in calculated madness of any variety, but it’s simply not often enough that we see an act perfectly embody that concept from top to bottom like what we’re able to bear witness to here.
