Where some might think black metal can only go backwards and remain where it was birthed decades ago in order to become captivating once again, there are those out there who know how to twist the sound to become something surprisingly fresh while never once ridding itself of those classic ideals. To modernize something like old school black metal and make it your own is a task that many have tried with several failing in the face of such a task that many find insurmountable. On occasion, however, a name does come around that manages to impress and astound. Compromised of members that have done just that in other acts, the arrival of Parfaxitas is one that demands to be respected.

To already have your feet steeped in the style you hope to perpetuate in another act is to potentially put yourself well ahead of the game. Of course, that doesn’t always equal success for every reason, but in the right circumstances it can mean nothing less than immense success at damn near every turn the likes of which makes the heads of many turn in wild fascination. By and large, Parfaxitas has achieved just that with “Weaver of the Black Moon”. A dense beast of the night that holds nothing back and always ensures that the listener is put through a blizzard of complex black metal that reels, entrances, and always astounds in each of its six offerings of sheer, unyielding darkness. A true testament to what it means to wield controlled chaos on a level that feels just as bewildering as it does irresistible, it’s the nuances and intricacies of black metal like this that makes such creations few and far between for obvious reasons, and to witness such a thing rise is a treat in of itself. Given the pedigree of those behind Parfaxitas, however, it’s only natural that greatness would follow within the confines of “Weaver of the Black Moon”. The kind of work modern black metal is always craving for, you simply can’t go wrong with losing yourself in the dense tapestry this album boasts.

There are whole swathes of the underground that are constantly on the lookout for acts like Parfaxitas. A true tour de force of what it means to deliver scathing black metal that knows precisely what it wants to be, dares to go beyond those limits, and pulling it all off with the capacity to make it look easy, “Weaver of the Black Moon” is a massive work that demands respect.
