Dragoncorpse – The Fall of House Abbarath

It’s not terribly often that we’re met with a creation that feels as fresh as much as it is a genuinely good idea with plenty of basis and potential for expansion and success on a wide scale. The metal underground has seen loads of innovation across its lifetime with it oftentimes feeling as though there just aren’t any more avenues that one can take all the different styles without venturing into the outright experimental. Every now and then, however, there comes a new name that manages to subvert expectations and impress. It was with their debut EP not too long ago that Dragoncorpse managed to do just that, and it’s now with their forthcoming EP that they’re primed for wild expansion.

Right away, the thing that jumps out about Dragoncorpse to even those well familiar with the name is the sheer audacity of trying to bring together the realms of power metal and deathcore into a single sound. It’s something that I still grapple with even after experiencing Dragoncorpse’s first creation many times over, yet it’s clear that these guys were destined to bring such an unconventional concoction to life as it’s with every given facet of “The Fall of House Abbarath” that Dragoncorpse takes their already dynamic sound for a much more dramatic and atmospheric turn. Attacking this EP with an approach that is distinctly different than its predecessor and nothing short of something that can be considered a game changer even so early on in their run, “The Fall of House Abbarath” sets its backdrop for the clearly medieval with all the orchestrations and keys coming together brilliantly with the surprising melodies and invigorating intensities. Separately, all of these elements are nothing to look down upon. Yet, it’s when brought together by the hands of Dragoncorpse, wild adventure and a damn good time but the beginning of what follows. In the hands of the less imaginable or less sure in their own vision, a sound like this can ever so easily fall apart. But if there’s any one thing that “The Fall of House Abbarath” proves above all else, it’s the simple fact that Dragoncorpse is not to be underestimated with all that the act has accomplished in virtually no time whatsoever nothing that deserves to be looked down upon.

Always are fans sifting through the underground to find the next hit of dopamine to latch onto, and Dragoncorpse is surely that immense injection that many of us have been looking for. There’s so much just within “The Fall of House Abbarath” to lose yourself in with the very prospect of Dragoncorpse’s quality only getting higher from here on out something that truly makes one shudder to think about. There are loads of bands out there in the vast underground that deserve our attention, and Dragoncorpse is undeniably one of them.
