Metal fans are no strangers to fantasy nor are they new to the concept of bringing the two together. For decades now, fantastical metal has made up a very large part of the underground’s themes with nothing off the table with the only thing holding people back being their raw imagination with it being recently that we are still able to bear witness to acts coming around to show us their attempt at delivering such otherworldly greatness in ways that only they can. Having been doing so for six years now, Bog Wizard continues to lumber forward with immensity and power that’s on full display in their forthcoming collaboration with Madness Heart Games.

With a sense of heaviness that taps more than a little into the sludge and stoner corners of what doom metal has to offer, Bog Wizard has not been a band to underestimate for years now with the years only adding to the potency of the swamp this act was born within. While their split performance with the revered Froglord, “A Frog in the Bog”, is still one of the most fun and interesting performances that doom of this kind has thrown my way in recent years, it needs to be made clear that every step in the creation of “Journey Through the Dying Lands” cannot be seen as anything short of an all-around upgrade for the likes of Bog Wizard. A concept album that ties into an anthology of the same, “Journey Through the Dying Lands” is an absolute beast of a performance from top to bottom with all the signature details of Bog Wizard’s stank-wreathed heaviness all over the creation to make it something that demands to be respected. It’s the first of the three new tracks offered here that takes the most attention and glory across its 20-minute runtime, but it’s the whole of the work that demands the same treatment. A tremendous display of what Bog Wizard has been throwing down for years now with a substantial taste of their live performance to boot, “Journey Through the Dying Lands” has impressive depth and more than enough competency to sate one’s desire for adventure while ensuring a thrilling ride of danger, intensity, and more than a little horror for good measure.

What could have easily been naught but a brief venture that was a fun trollop by the end, Bog Wizard simply cannot be contained so easily even by itself! Demonstrating only the finest aspects of what has always made this band a force to be reckoned with, every drop of “Journey Through the Dying Lands” is nothing short of magnificence in motion. If a damn good time through a fantasy realm with all the power and menace to match, Bog Wizard has got what you need!
