To have a real sense of malice is something that an extremely large portion of the metal underground is constantly striving to achieve with there constantly being a litany of fresh instances of success in that goal, but there are always bands that manage to seek something deeper with even fewer seeing those goals to the end. It tends to be where the hard-struck boundaries of genres are torn down and things really begin to blur in one sense of another. Persecutory has always done its best to channel that exact breed of menace into their brand of black-death metal, and it’s now two years since their last outing that we see the next step in the band’s evolution of onslaught.

Right from the imagery of the cover arts that Persecutory has used for some time now, it should become clear immediately that this is not a band that holds back nor is it one to be conservative in its offensives with all sorts of darkness and blasphemy on the table to ensure that the band’s pursuit of insanity is met out to the fullest extent. In lieu of not having an extensive catalog since their first creation eight years ago, the sheer quality of Persecutory’s work is nothing to be denied for all that it dares to be and all that it goes out of its way to set aflame. No one is safe before the might of an EP like “The Glorious Persecution”. This EP is simply invigorating to behold with the style of Persecutory’s madness only tempered throughout these three tracks that impressively furl themselves out across an expansive 22-minute runtime that holds nothing back, ensures every soul is burnt to cinders, and is downright unrelenting in the demons that it summons forth to commence an assault upon the living such that the very sun blacks itself it such that it doesn’t bear witness the to atrocities. Perfectly blending diabolical riffage, compelling songwriting, and primal intensity that seeks the flames lick the very heels of those damned to torture and death, “The Glorious Persecution” is what many bands throughout black-death metal seek with incredibly able to bring it to life with such weight, capacity, and talent as what Persecutory delivers in every instance here.

Madness unbound with nothing standing in their way, time has only heightened the sense of destruction and taste for blood that Persecutory has always harnessed, and it demands to be made clear that they’ve reached an undeniable peak with this EP. For all that they could have done and all that they’ve already accomplished, “The Great Persecution” demands to be hailed as the overwhelming march of darkness that it is with no one able to heed to progress of Persecutory’s destiny as harbingers of a Hell unlike anything we’ve seen before.
