All too often do we see plenty of bands come around to bring their own style of glory and splendor to a realm like psychedelic rock, but only the finest and most avid purveyors of the craft are able to put forth creations that really feel as though the sun is shining on our shoulders with the horizon simply opening up before us. That’s a sensation many have tried to tap into with a style such that this, and fans are not easily wont to let exceptional examples leave their sight should they come upon them. Every now and then, however, a new name comes out of the woodwork to impress and demonstrate that very greatness with naught but glory destined for those who follow the act. Given what’s been accomplished here, Sunguine certainly seems to be just such a name.

At this point, none of us should be strangers to the concept of instrumental psychedelic rock in all of its many forms and where it can take the listener so long as the artist in question is ready to tackle such a challenge and deliver something that can truly unlock the mind’s eye. Every year gives us a few piece that show us precisely what can still be done with the right approach and proper talent behind the wheel. For nine tracks of “All Time High”, Sunguine absolutely fits that bill to potentially be the last essential stop in 2024 for psychedelia of this breed. Warm, overflowing with riffs, and the exact sort of intoxicating trippy vibes that one could ask for when on a sun-caked beach with the waves the ever-shifting glass that is infinitely hypnotizing so long as Sunguine remains at the helm of your vessel, this is what psychedelia of this caliber was all but made for! It’s an expansive work that doesn’t coerce or force you into its realm, but, rather, offers you a path that, should you decide to travel, will take you down to a world where the whole of the spectrum of heaviness and psychedelia come together to make for a well-paced, fascinating blend of stoner tendencies that not just enables the listener to have a damn good time, but helps set aside “All Time High” and Sunguine as a presence that’s not to be denied. There are always new and quality bands coming out of essentially nowhere, and it’s here with their second album that Sunguine more than earns the right to be in that very conversation.

Infectious to the highest order and nothing short of an injection of pure bliss of a kind whose potency is not set to wane any time soon, Sunguine has instantly made itself known as an act to respect for any who claim to be purveyors of all that is psychedelia in our current climate. The competition is always stiff with tons of material always out there to sift through, yet it’s pound for pound that “All Time High” manages to deliver a performance that hits on every level and knows precisely how to present nothing that can’t be considered grand even in its smallest moments.
