Onslaught Kommand – Malignancy

For all intents and purposes, there are corners of the sprawling underground where maddening ferocity is the name of the game. More often than not, there are legions of bands at any given time that are able to deliver in that area, but lack in others with only the finest purveyors of gore able to bring about something that gives listeners a specific face while in the presence of such nastiness. Where some fail, however, there are those that succeed in ways that feel truly spectacular from top to bottom. Despite only being around for a couple of years and their first EP releasing just at the start of the year, Onslaught Kommand is already well ahead of many of their homicidal competitors. With a bloodlust that clearly hasn’t been sated, it’s with their newest creation that they’ve already somehow upped the ante.

There are some bands that just refuse to stay down for long. After gaining quite a considerable reputation for their particular approach to grind with more than a few death and black metal aspects alongside a clear knack for violence that the band truly runs wild with, Onslaught Kommand did great things with this year’s EP, “Visions of Blood and Gore”, and I don’t think any of us were expecting the Chilean act to return so quickly, yet it’s with everything that’s found within the harrowing halls of viscera and tormented screams that none of us should be skeptical in any form of all that “Malignancy” is. A fourteen-track display of raw power with a schizophrenic bloodlust that is no less than singular in its visions for walls painted with intestines, this has got to be hands-down one of the extremely few works of the style that demands investigation. It’s the most grotesque, brutal, and unforgiving kind of horror film in the aural form, and Onslaught Kommand was clearly more than up to the task of bringing such a devastating performance to life from its distorted riffs and demented themes coming together in a patchwork of terror that is simply intoxicating to look upon. Armed with the most wicked form of seduction that only pulls you further into the hellish dominion that Onslaught Kommand has in complete darkness at all times with light’s only purpose to unveil the torture that has befallen the flesh. By the end, the brutal assault of “Malignancy” is so compelling that one cannot help but dive back in to uncover the rest of the horrific details that one will have likely missed during their first damned expedition into that howling blackness.

While I cannot speak to the current state of all that’s to be found within grind, I cannot help but feel as though Onslaught Kommand is one of those bands that’s all but destined to become a rising name for all that they’ve already brought to the butcher’s table with more surely on the horizon with the quality likely to only increase as well. It’s until then that the bleeding carcass of “Malignancy” has more than enough rich flavor and bloody aftertaste for us to lose ourselves in, and the exquisite layers of this delicacy is sure to linger for quite some time.

“Malignancy” releases on October 18th via Godz ov War Productions!
